Boston In The Fall

There’s plenty to fall in love with during the fall season in Boston. From the vivid fall foliage appearance from late September – October to the crisp air that sweeps through the city streets, the New England area is the place to be this autumn. Read on to learn more about fall activities across Boston and some excursions close to home in our lively Seaport District.

Fall Activities in Boston

There are plenty of seasonal celebrations and events across Boston during October and November, when fall is at its peak.

Boston Marathon

Although this event has taken place during the month of April in years past, due to COVID-19, the event is scheduled for Monday, October 11th, this fall! As one of the year’s biggest events, the marathon draws about 31,500 elite runners and attracts nearly 500,000 spectators, making it New England’s most widely viewed sporting event. If you’re interested in being a spectator of the event but don’t want to get caught up in the traffic and commotion of staying along the marathon route, our Seaport Hotel is the place for you.

Columbus Day Parade in the North End

The Columbus Day Parade marches through Boston’s North End on odd-numbered years (2021, 20233, 2025) and the East End during even-numbered years (2022, 2024, 2026). It is a celebration of the area’s Italian heritage and the armed forces’ role in American Independence. The best way to enjoy the Columbus Day Parade is by stopping by one of the many Italian restaurants along Hanover and Salem Streets.

Enjoy Halloween & Spooky Season

Being rich in history often comes with being rich in ghost stories and historic graveyards, and that’s why Boston revels in Halloween. There are many ways to celebrate Halloween this year, from multiple ghost and gravestone tours to shows, cruises, and pub crawls (that often involve costumes)!

Explore Outside of Boston

Explore the vast and vibrant fall foliage of the New England area with a fall foliage tour, or literally, get outside the city, and look in during a fall foliage luncheon cruise from the Boston Harbor.

Or, if you really want to embrace spooky season, plan a day trip to Salem this Halloween. Our hotel is only an hour’s drive along the coast away from Salem, and there you can experience haunted happenings, seances, and a glimpse and the history’s darker past.

Things to Do in Seaport During the Fall

If you want to stay close to our waterfront oasis during your stay, there are also plenty of seasonal happenings in our very own Seaport District.

Fort Point Open Studios

Fort Point’s Open Studios will be held the weekend of October 15th – 17th. Open Studios brings people together to celebrate the art and culture created in Fort Point. During Open Studios, FPAC artists welcome Boston area residents and visitors from afar into our spaces for a casual (informal) weekend of experiencing art, growing friendships, and enjoying all our neighborhood has to offer.

Play Date: Spellbound Sights at ICA

On Halloween-eve, get inspired by bedazzled and costume-like artworks in the exhibitions The Worlds We Make: Selections from the ICA Collection, Raúl de Nieves: The Treasure House of Memory, and 2021 James and Audrey Foster Prize. Request free admission for families with children ages 12 and under.

Enjoy the Boston Lyric Opera: Cavalleria Rusticana

Enjoy Boston Lyric Opera’s first production of Cavalleria Rusticana, Mascagni’s verismo tale of love, betrayal, and death in a small Sicilian village. Experience the thrill of live, large-scale opera together in the open air at Leader Bank Pavilion on Boston’s waterfront on October 1st and 3rd.
